Corrections: What We Got Wrong
Last updated
This is the public log of corrections to The Yardstick Almanac. When a published page turns out to be wrong in substance (a number, a date, a definition, a source, or a claim stated more firmly than its source allows), the fix is recorded here and at the end of the page itself, on the same day.
How a correction is made
A correction changes every place the same claim appears: the short answer under the headline, the Calibration card, the page description used by search engines and link previews, tables, data files and their notes, and any other page that repeats the claim. The revision date in the page's Cite this page block moves to the day of the correction. Pages are not changed silently.
Each entry below follows the same pattern, a date first and then three parts:
YYYY-MM-DD — What changed: … — Why: … — Reported by: reader / internal check
“Reader” means the error came in by email; “internal check” means it turned up when the page was checked again. Right after the date, each entry names the corrected page with a link to it. Newest entries come first.
To report an error, see Write in. How sources are weighed when a report comes in is set out in Where the numbers come from.
